Where you are going through an anxiety provoking situation that hasn’t happened yet and you keep going back and forth on how you feel about it? That’s been happening to me for years. I’m worried about work right now. I tell myself it’s going to be ok. I then feel confident and not worried about the situation and I feel much better. Then 30 minutes later I start freaking out again and obsessing over it until I make myself feel better again. This repeats usually until the situation is over.

But it also happens with other stuff. I’ll say to myself “should I return this for that other thing?” Or “should I return this for a different size, color, etc.” it’s just this almost obsessive way I think. It’s like I just can’t make up my mind on how I feel about a situation.

While typing this I felt better about work, but now I’m stressing again. How can I deal with these thoughts tonight? I don’t work until 3 tomorrow.

Sounds to me like mild mood swings. Do have a doc you can discuss it with?

I believe it's obsessive thoughts because you said you worry about things that haven't happened yet. Here is an article from ADAA about obsessive thoughts. Have you been receiving professional help? Have you been diagnosed with anxiety?

I worry a lot too but mostly I plan to improve my life in a way that is not possible. I daydream building blocks ("I will buy a Royal Enfield, lost weight, get eye surgery and make friends starting from next academic year") and get lost in it. If I suppose telling this to you helps.

Sometimes I feel I don't trust myself to make a definite decision, or do a good job.

I tend to get that way when I’m hypomanic. (BP type 2) I get anxious and start ruminating. Going over there things in my head until sometimes I literally make my self sick and end up barfing

I agree that it might be a good idea to talk to your Pdoc or therapist about this. fharriage has a good point too. Sometimes we have difficulties making decisions because we don’t trust ourselves.

I go through periods where I feel damaged at being “labeled” as bipolar. It was huge blow to my self confidence, but I’m getting better at it.

I’m on meds for bipolar. My doctor isn’t sure I have it though since I never show my mood swings.

Things worked out today. I tend to worry and over think for nothing. It’s just emotionally draining sometimes trying to keep up with these thoughts.

Sounds like obsessive thoughts to me. I have the same thing, to get rid of them, I'll try to occupy my time with something fun I like to do. It does help to keep your mind of your thoughts.

I have that too. So you're not alone. For me it also helps to distract myself with videos on YouTube, listen to audiobooks or talkshows on the background. Just to not be alone with my thoughts.

I’ve been able to distract myself for most of the day. Whenever I think of the incident at work I feel like throwing up but it does seem better then a couple days ago.

I was also obsessing over something I wanted to buy. I was so worried it would be sold out by the time I got to the store on Monday. I ended up just going to the store today and buying it. Sometimes just doing things right then and there is helpful.
