I have terrible anxiety over food poisoning. It is to the point where I only feel safe eating cereal and goldfish. Everything feels like a hazard.

Tonight my mom cooked an orzo dish with chicken. Lots of chicken. I haven’t eaten chicken in months because I’m afraid of getting sick with salmonella.

It’s been nearly 4 hours since I ate it. My stomach was gurgling, now it feels better I think. I hope. I feel kind of nauseated but idk if it’s from panic. I ate kind of a lot of it.

I managed to keep myself from puking it back up but barely. Someone please tell me if I’m being irrational.

I'd take it easy, just do gentle stuff until you know your stomach is settled

then I'd see how the night goes.

if the night goes well (without you being sick or without too much stomach pain), you're good

did the chicken taste like it was cooked to you?

if it tasted cooked, then it really won't have salmanella

Yeah I woke up feeling ok today. It wasn’t pink at all, I’m just still anxious because I know a lot of food poisoning doesn’t set in for 12-72 hours... so the next few days are just going to be me waiting to get a stomach ache. It’s so exhausting.

If it's chicken you'd feel sick and have symptoms fast.

It's true that you have to be careful with chicken. Even if you don't eat the chicken you can get cross contamination from things that the chicken was prepared with. I used to cook up chicken breast all the time in my cafe job, but I was careful and no one ever got sick. I'm not in food service anymore, but I only buy precooked chicken.

It possible that you ate too fast. Or just had your nerves. Unless it very red or smell and look funny you should be okay.
