I've felt like a ****** parent for a while. My panic attacks and associated anxiety & fear have kind of taken over my existence for many months. This makes it very hard to be present and patient with my 9 yr old son. He's more important to me than I can express and I've been living with lots of guilt over my relationship with him. We have some time together over the holidays, and I'm making some relationship repairing and rebuilding with him my mission. Today was a success! He's always had a fear of riding a bike, but recently expressed that he wanted to learn. I got him a bike and took him out for his first lesson today. I spent some time mentally preparing myself before we went and was able to be present, supportive, and never loose my patience or allow anxiety to take over. It was hard at moments, but I just allowed myself to breathe and stay positive. I was able to maintain a safe and fun environment and I could tell he really had fun. It felt amazing. I didn't let fear dominate. Baby steps but it was a start. I think we're going to have lots of good time together over the next few weeks!
