"Here come the lizards"

Someone is talking to me. I reply. Am I doing the right thing? Why are they looking at me like that? Have I done something to offend them? Best get on with my work and not think about it.

"Here come the lizards, here come the lizards"

I must have seemed distant or standoffish or something. I can't think of anything I did wrong. Must have been something. I'm sure they're probably talking about me now and how weird I am. I can't ask them because I'll seem even weirder.

"Here come the lizards, here come the lizards, here come the lizards"

I'm sure they're avoiding me. Did they give me a funny look just then? Why did they start whispering when I went by? Are they laughing? I must be the laughing stock of the whole place now. Close your eyes, and remember to breathe. It not working. Why do I have to think these things. I wish I'd not thought anything at all.

"Here come the lizards, here come the lizards, here come the lizards, here come the lizards"

etc.

When I keep arguing with someone I have learned to think to myself, "What if the other person is right and you are wrong?"

You could reverse your lizards that way so they run from you? What if they are not talking about you and not looking at you funny and it's you who have "misread" the looks. When it serves my purpose, I invent things to think that "help" me. Since what we think is entirely "our" thinking (like what we dream are our dreams and relate to what's going on in our own lives) then we can "decide" to think whatever we want! So, you can decide the other people are in awe of you and talking about what a great person you are just as easily as you can decide they are whispering about how strange you are. Or, you can think they think you're strange or you can think they aren't thinking about you at all and you just think you/they are strange.

the_disordered_one,

In addition to having a name for these flying thoughts now, (and I'm not overly found of lizards), I am wondering how you got in my head.

On the up side, how many more of us are there? Maybe they're all thinking the same thing.
