I spent 20 years driving in the suburbs of a large city in a flat patr of the country. Now I live in a rural area in the mountains. This afternoon I was on a road I don't care for anyway, and for some reason there was no other traffic. I was stressed to begin with, and at one point every thing seemed to be unconnected and I had to stop in the middle of a 55 mph zone! My passenger is partially blind and couldn't take over, he made me get to the end of that stretch to a place where I could pull off, My ears were ringing, my heart pounding and I was dizzy. I've driven that road 100's of times, although not recently, what happened?

Sounds to me like a panic attack. Yup. They happen to me all the time. Very scary while you're driving. I've found myself on the side of the road countless times. They hit me out of the blue, no warning. I wish I had some answers for you but I don't. i can only say with a good degree of certainty that it was a panic attack.

Thanks, it always helps to identify a problem, and now I won't be wasting $ at the Dr. seeing if it's my blood presure or blood sugar. I guess I'll avoid that stretch of road again, not only is it a dangerous road, it carries memories of the years I spent with an abusive man and later the drug years where my whole life spun out of control.
