Hello
I have had depression for 40 years and anxiety for 30 years.

My anxiety manifests in excessive sweating. When Im having anxiety, I am sweating.

I started taking Xanax [pronounced Zan-axe] (1.5 mg per day) and I turned my life around. But my doctor didnt like me being on Xanax. I live in Canada and the College of Medicine frowned upon the use of Xanax.

I have tried mindfulness, meditation, CBT but it hasnt helped with the anxiety.

What medication is there out there for me to try?

Thank you
Mark
Thanks for this!

Hello Mark: I believe this is your first posted thread here on PC. So... welcome to Psych Central.

I don't have a lot of experience with medications myself. So I can't really offer anything based on personal experience. However here are links to some articles, from Psych Central's archives, on the subjects of depression as well as anxiety including 3 on the subject of medications for anxiety:

Depression: Symptoms, Types & Treatments | Psych Central

Living with Depression: A Guide for Coping with Depressive Feelings | Psych Central

Anxiety Disorders: Symptoms, Types & Treatments | Psych Central

Medication and Anxiety

Off-Label Treatments for Anxiety Disorders

I hope you find PC to be of benefit.

P.S. Since you mentioned having struggled with depression for 40 years & anxiety for 30, I thought I would also bring this Psych-Central-supported website for people with unrelenting depression & anxiety to your attention:

Currently on Wellbutrip & Cymbalta (generics) and although it is a great combo for me I need to get off the Cymbalta due to the side effects. I am going to Doc tomorrow to talk about replacing the Cymbalta with Buspar. Do you mind sharing what dose you are on and your experinece with it? Realizing of course we are all different and one can only try... much thanks!

I'm on the highest dose of Vortioxetine [Brintellix] and the lowest dose of Olanzapine [Zyprexa]. I've only been on the O for 3 weeks though.

Started the Buspar in place of Cymbalta this past Thursday and so far so good... a few small expected side effects but nothing in comparison to others of the past.

So now added 60mg of Buspar to my 450mg xl Welbutrin... and I am VERY hopeful and feeling like this was hte right direction for me to go in. Only time will tell of course I will try to update again in a few weeks.

I am sure my Husband is happy as the Cymbalta killed my interest in sex... the Buspar or the combination of Buspar & Welbutrin has restored my sex drive! So one problem solved! lol (Well ya gotta start somewhere....)
