I want to be very concise:
I find the more social I am, the more depressed I become. Never am I lonelier than when I'm in a group. Things always start wonderfully, but eventually the bad thoughts come and tell me everyone actually hates me and the people's faces become cold. I don't think I would call this "social anxiety", as I don't feel particularly anxious. Then again, perhaps this is the natural progression of social anxiety. My purpose in posting is to ask whether this is an experience others share? They say being social is good for our mental health, but it triggers me. |

Hi MiddayNap,
I can totally relate! I’m ok one-on-one but sometimes in groups I can just shut down. It seems like everyone is better friends and they don’t really like me. I feel like an outsider. It’s very hard to dig deep and be a part of the group and happy like they seem. The I get upset that people are”ignoring” me. I hate the feeling. I don’t drink so it’s hard to match the humor and energy.. it IS very important that I have friends so I’m starting to reach out to those I’ve lost track of.. It’s an effort sometimes when I feel like I’m the one with “issues”. I think it’s all in my view of things but it’s hard to battle that. I sometimes focus on one person i know well and then ask questions of others I don’t know as well. People love to talk about themselves!
