Been experiencing panic attacks a lot more frequently lately. They seem to last so long. It’s as if trying to push through the initial trigger just delays the full attack.
Anyway. How do you all deal? What calms you down or grounds you? |

I'm so sorry you have these panic attacks. I know. I'm an avoider, avoiding a lot of things, so I guess that's what I'm doing most of the time to keep calm. But a knock on the door or getting a text or phone call can feel terrifying. We probably need a wonderful therapist. I don't have one right now. Are you in therapy?

Sorry. Not much help as I panic easily about almost everything. The feeling probably doesn't fit the medical definition. But my heart can pound so fast and loud I can both feel and hear it!
Standing water in the sink, car won't start, potential bread shortage, no service, black screen on computer, etc. Panic, panic, panic. For me it depends on the situation. Sometimes telling myself I don't know for SURE what's going on. Or distract myself by thinking of something totally unrelated such as what's good to make for dinner next week. Or wondering if the final book on a trilogy I'm reading is out yet. Living alone a knock on the door will make me freeze. There's no business anyone has with me, except possible maintenance but I'd know if they were coming. Still, that sound is unnerving. Experts tout taking a deep breath which may or may not help, depending on the moment. Sometimes I try to focus on what's going around me or what do I see or does it feel hot/cold/warm where I am. __________________ Call me "owl" for short! Hmmm....looks like some good tips in here.
