So this morning I woke up and thought that since I have the whole day ahead of me, I'd be able to get lots done...ha. Can't focus on revision 3 hours of revision is all I managed, and probably about half of that time was spent just staring into space...I keep wasting time like that! Can't focus on revision It's less than a month until my first exam and I'm still struggling with a lot of it...the lecturers for the course are away and there are no more tutorials so I'm on my own...I'm going to fail I know it. Can't focus on revision

Ok...time to play momma here...

You are NOT gonna fail!!!

here's what i think...for what it's worth lol...

1. beating yourself up over it and worrying about it just makes it worse.

2. you need to break up your revision times...i got told take 10 mins off after every 50...go have a coke, send a friend an e-mail, listen to a song and give it your undivided attention, whatever works for you.

3. don't forget to give yourslf decent breaks like you get in school...schedule your revision time at home the way schools schedule your study time. i.e. ...give yourself a recess time, a lunch hour etc.

4. believe in yourself. give yourself positive affirmations to repeat to yourself every day like a mantra. believe it or not it does work.

5. don't forget we're all rooting for you coz we al believe in you.

6. you go girl, you WILL pass those exams.

Three hours is a lot for a day's intense work. You don't "work" that hard when you are at school. I hope you broke it up in bits of 45 minutes or so and did other things inbetween?

Pretend the revising is class/tutoring and "go to lunch", back to your quarters, etc. LOL. Mix it up.

It's early yet, I'm sure you'll be more than adequately prepared. At first it seems a lot and like you'll never get it learned but it gets easier as you cram more stuff in, LOL. Have fun with the material and be imaginative about it; write yourself little poems and ditties and try to make two things with no connection to one another have a connection. Just the thinking about it, even when you're doing something else, will get it remembered so when you actually are in the exams you can smile the whole time because you'll be thinking about the physics of flowers when you're doing your maths.

If it feels like you're going to do poorly anyway, then at least enjoy it? Get fatalistic about it that way; have a good time studying if you're going to study at all. Have a good time doing the exam. Who knows how you'll do? You're studying as well as you can, you've passed exams before, etc. Might as well feel excited and challenged by them and see what you can learn, what you know, as be feeling anxious and defeated?

Thanks, Kalamity_Jane! Can't focus on revision I do try and break up my revision times, but we still have lectures at the moment so it's not always easy to do during the week, because I don't have that much spare time. Still, it's been a bit easier revising since I made this post...I was possibly still a bit sleep-deprived on Saturday (flatmates Can't focus on revision).

Thanks again! Can't focus on revision

Thanks for replying, Hyper1. That's good you know what works for you! If studying is going well then I'll sometimes just keep going as well, but if it's not then there's really no point staring at a blank page, it just frustrates me. Can't focus on revision

Thanks, Perna. It wasn't all at once - I think it was an hour before lunch, an hour after lunch and an hour before dinner. But like I said, a lot of that time wasn't spent actually working. Can't focus on revision

I hope so...when I was at school I tried to start revising a couple of months before, but I haven't managed that here. That sounds like fun! Can't focus on revision

Enjoy? Exams? Can't focus on revision Can't focus on revision That's true. Thanks!

lol Rio thats the problem. studying doesnt go well for me. My mind constantly wanders to random things and i end up rereading everything a billion times. it can be really fustrating. its just even harder to focus after taking a break.

Greetings from an ancient one who wouldn't even remember HOW to take a class. I could never learn while sitting still. I needed to be walking, going up and down stairs, balancing on a physical therapy ball. . . Kind of makes me giggle to think of the possibilities I didn't try during my college days.

imagine trying to read a txt book while jogging or even walking up and down the stiars. that would be crazily imposible to read cuz it would keep jiggling. but definatly fun to try. and who knows, it could possibly even work.
