I realize that this type of phobia isn't anywhere near what a lot of you are going thru...not quite sure where to post this.

Anyway, I have a really really extreme fear of heights. It's so bad that I don't even play on playground equipment with my daughter because I'm scared I'll fall off. I even get nervous jumping on a bed. I can't buy a house if the back porch is too high. When we were at the mall, just yesterday, I got so scared when my daughter walked close to the railings on the upper level.

Sometimes it's really ridiculous, and I know I shouldn't be scared, but I still am.

Just curious if anyone has ever got over a fear of heights, and how you did it.

Unfortunately, I don't have any good advice for you.

The best remedy for overcoming any type of phobia is through exposure, unfortunately.

I also have a fear of heights, but not to the length you do... Anyone ever conquered an extreme fear of heights?

I don't really have a fear of heights per say but the thought of falling from them still freaks me out from time to time.

I've been toying with the notion of skydiving somewhere down the line to see what that would do for the phobia this main issue I simply have not worked out is:

"Why would I purposely jump from a perfectly good plane?"

I know what you mean. When I was a little kid I used to have a re-occurring dream of falling. Even though I always awoke before 'impact' it still scared me to death.

I've talked with many other people that have experienced this too. I know from my studies that it comes from our Reptilian Brain - which ironically enough is the same place our fight-or-flight mechanism is located.

Can fear of falling or fear or fear of heights be a common thread among us? Anyone?
