Does anyone experiance the shaking of hands or other twitches when you are nervous, especially in a social setting? I have anxiety and part of it is possibly social anxiety disorder. I have been working to correct it the best I can ever sense I was a teenager and I have been able to conquor about 50% of the problems caused by it just by simply forcing myself to do the things which made me nervous like going to the store alone etc. Now I can do things like this without feeling nervous at all. However one problem remains...when I go to parties and such, especially with lots of people I dont know, then my hands begin to shake and the only way I can stop it is having a stiff drink! Its especially odd because I may not feel the nervousness at all but I sure dure notice my hands shaking because I have to try and hide it or people will see and being nervous about people noticing only makes it worse! When it is at its very worse then my head will twitch when Im trying to listen to what somebody is saying. This is so bazzar and I dont want to have to have to deal with it!!! Im take klonapin for anxiety which have pretty much gotten rid of the anxiety attacks and panic attacks I used to get yet this still remains. Does anyone have suggestions?

floods of destruction swept over me.
5 The grave wrapped its ropes around me;
death laid a trap in my path.

yes, I prayed to my God for help.
He heard me from his sanctuary;
my cry to him reached his ears."

I have the same problem. When I'm nervous my hands really shake. It was brutal when I was job hunting. The only thing that kind of helps me at all is to do some deep breathing exercises before going into the situation where I know I'm going to be nervous. That and I find my hands are steadier if i have something to hold wierd as that may sound.

Good luck & if you figure out any other tricks on your own, please let me know.

You know what's the worst?

I get really nervous before stuff like flute solos. I'm sure most other people would, too. And it's almost impossible to do breathing exercises when you have to accomodate for the music!

I think shaking when you're so nervous and anxious are quite normal? And yes, I experience that too....

I also have the shakes when I'm anxious and try to calm down.
The shakes will pass. Sometimes when my husband hollers at me I get the shakes and I try to calm down and sometimes I let out my frustrations out of me to stop from shaking.

Or talk to someone who you rely on and they can can help you cope with the problem.

has anyone ever tried 'worry beads'?

you hold them in your hands and press them, pass them around, just play with them - or pray on them if that's your thing, or distract yourself with word games, or count breathing with them...

i calm down a bit when i use them, i'll have to make some more, they disappear like crazy because i leave them everywhere.

you could make them too ... go to a bead store, buy 20 medium beads you like - or more, depending on size, larger around 10 - and get the shop artist to show you how to make them ... use wire or nylon or stretchy *cord - they have it all there and can cut it for you ... heck, they can make it for you, just purchase the material.

i'd try it - it could work, if it doesn't, you can always use them for 'worrying' as this is an ancient form of relaxation ... and it works when i remember to hold onto them.

peace,
nightbird

I experince the shakes too. Espically in my hands when I am incredibly nervous. I try and carry a little thing of playdoh with me and when my hands start shaking I take the playdoh out and roll it into a ball and play with it..it really helps.
