A big one. I am having a hard time breathing. And, of course, I'm crying. I am responsible for doing month end reporting for the doctors here. It's not a task I wanted, not a task I enjoy. Apparently I'm good at it. Apparently not. I just discovered that in June '07 I made a mistake. We had just hired a new doctor and I forgot to include her charges and payments in the total. The numbers are there on the spreadsheet, I just forgot to expand my formula to include them. "Just". She did get paid her correct amount. But our month end, therefore our year end is off by $55,000 in charges and $22,000 in payments for '07. Stupid. Stupid stupid stupid. Why didn't I go back and check it? Why didn't I notice when I did year end that the numbers on one page didn't match the other page? So far my manager isn't mad, but she hasn't told the doctors yet. Oh lord, how could I make such a simple, stupid mistake? It's what I dread every time I do month end. Every time!

none of us are perfect, (((CSC))) so try not to beat yourself up. we all make mistakes from time to time. the manager isn't mad and i would assume that she would be the one who might have reacted. don't think in the long run the docs will care as long as they got paid and the snafu is fixed.
what's done is done and you can't change the past. just use this like a life lesson and i bet'cha u check those numbers next time.

That's the sad part--I always am so nervous about doing it, I do check the numbers. If one of the doctors are even off a few thousand from what they normally are I check. I just suck. This is a hard pill to swallow for a perfectionist!

Thank you. It's mostly me beating myself up. I just talked to my manager and she confirmed that the doctor on whose line the error occurred would not have gotten the money anyway (employed physician), the money was still deposited, and it didn't effect their distribution. So, it really didn't have that big of an impact except that it made my worst nightmare about my job come true. Ok, look on the positive side.....because of my organizational and computer skills and just the way my brain works, I was able to quickly track back to where the error occurred. I quickly owned up to the mistake. Those are postives out the mistake, right? (I still feel like I should have never made the mistake).

We all make mistakes, like you said at least you were able to find the mistake and own up to it.

Thank you gimmeice! I'm starting to stop the stupid feeling a little bit. As many mistakes as I make in my personal life, I hate making mistakes at work! (Especially since it involves the doctor's money! It makes me sick to my stomach dealing with two commas in a dollar amount!!!)
