I also have a fear of needles though I must say that my fear is not as bad as it once was but that could be because the last few years I have had to have a lot of exposure to needles. What I have done to try to help my fear is to try to relax the muscles where they want to inject me, this takes a lot of concentration which keeps your mind busy not allowing the fear to really run away with itself. ![]()

i used to have a really bad fear of needles - i used to hide under the table when the doctor pulled one out (no joke - i seriously would crawl under their table). anyway, the past year hasn't been so bad.
you can make it better by telling the doc/nurse that you are frightened of them, and they will usually use a smaller needle (it's tiny!) that they use for babies. one good experience of needles diminishes your fear, a few good experiences makes it feel managable. the other thing is my doctor has prescribed me some anti-anxiety meds that i can use if i need to go for a scary procedure. you could look into that if you want ![]() |

AS WELL AS DOING THINGS OTHERS MENTION. I PRAY WHEN I HAVE TO GET A SHOT OR HAVE BLOOD DRAWN FOR TEST. I ASK GOD TO HELP THE PERSON GIVING ME TEST OR SHOT. I ASK FOR A "GOOD STICK" I HAVE BEEN AMAZED HOW THIS HAS HELPED.
ALSO I DO NOT LOOK AT THE NEEDLE THEY USE, I JUST LOOK AWAY, PRAY, DO MY BEST TO RELAX AND IT IS OVER QUICKLY. GOD REALLY DOES CARE ABOUT OUR FEARS AND WANTS TO HELP US OVERCOME THEM AND FEEL SAFE. SOMEWHERE I READ "LOVE CASTS OUT FEAR". SO I KEEP REMINDING MYSELF THAT GOD LOVES ME AND IS TAKING CARE OF ME AND IT HELPS. I WILL PRAY YOU CAN HAVE THE TESTS YOU NEED SO YOU CAN STAY HEALTHY. I was in the hospital, one arm in a splint, the other with an IV and they decided they would draw a blood sample out of the bottom of my foot. I objected to that ans they took it out of the back of a hand.
But what ever happened to the air gun injectors? I'm pretty fearless on needles in my arms or butt. But I also give blood every 12 - 15 weeks. When they started pricking the ear, I objected and had them do a finger. Just don't look at the needle if it bothers you. Most technicians are good enough you barely feel it. |

My fear isn't that bad. Actually, I like piercing needles, but I have a totally different outlook as far as needles that a doctor administers. I hate them with a passion! My veins even hate them, the more I got poked, the harder it was for them to get my darn veins!

I am completely terrified of needles, though I did have an injection when my throat was swelling closed from strep last spring. Blood draws and IVs are out of the question, just the thought of possibly having that happen sends me into severe panic attacks. Something about the needle going into a vein is worse than into a muscle for me. Its been 7 years since I had a blood test of any type and since that incident almost ended up with me being charged with assault against the lab tech, I have zero desire to try again. I've often joked that if I'm ever horribly sick or injured and end up in the ER, they'd best hope (for their sake) that I'm brought in unconscious.
