I started having horrible anxiety around the holidays. I had some panic attacks, I had an irrational fear that the devil was going to possess me or had possessed me. What would cause this irrational fear. This lead to sleepless nights for 4 nights. I went to the doctor. He put me on lexapro and klonopin. I felt better in a couple of days. Lately, the lexapro has been making me very tired and I have had trouble sleeping. I tried to not take the klonopin because my doctor wanted me to try and take only the lexapro. I went back to the doctor today and the nurse pract gave me a scrip for wellbutrin xl 150mg to take with the lexapro bc of the fatigue and weight gain and klonopin to take when needed if i cant sleep. When I start to drift off to sleep, my head jerks or my arms and legs jerk. This has been going on for a couple of weeks. The thing is, is that I have freaked myself out about demon possession and I am afraid that a demon is trying to take over. Is this a sign of schizophrenia or is it just plain horrible anxiety? Any help I would appreciate.

You're not crazy. Did your doctor do blood and urine tests, etc. to see if you have any physical/hormone or other problems? Thinking bizarre thoughts isn't "you" so if you can learn to laugh and joke about some of them that might help. The jerking arms/legs sounds like a drug side effect, etc. I'd learn all you can about the drugs/side effects as well as talk to the doctor about what's going on.

Could just be stress about the holidays; I don't know your personal history? I use to have trouble around the holidays and would "note" it each year as I saw my therapist and try to figure out what was going on based on my history, etc. Do you have a therapist? It doesn't sound like schizophrenia to me but even if it were, you're not crazy, just have med/body chemistry screw-ups maybe/maybe not caused by stress, etc. Talk more to your doctor and get lab tests to see if there's an obvious chemical problem that's influencing your thinking. But it's not "You!"

I would say that a combination of anxiety and not sleeping as well could very well cause this issue, if it continues I would bring it up with your doctor though because they can maybe do more adjusting with your meds to help you sleep.

My doctor said that if I am still having trouble sleeping, then she will give me a prescription for trazadone because it is not addicting like klonopin. But klonopin works well and I am able to relax and sleep. I hope the Wellbutrin will help with the fatigue because the lexapro has made me really tired. Thanks for the help.

anxietygirl,

when the doctor put me on wellbutrin along with another anti-dep. drug i began to have muscles jerking in my legs and arms and hands. i think you need to check on this added drug. when we took me off the wellbutrin after it was out of my body so were the jerking motions.

i feel pretty safe in saying the feelings you have right now do not have to do with malevolent beings attacking you. it truly sounds like it is a drug reaction. please check with your doctor! good luck with things; i hope you feel better soon.

The thing is is that I have had these jerking movements before the medicine was started. The only thing that seems to help is the klonopin but they dont want me to rely on it bc it is addictive, but it is the only thing that works.
