Hey all friends,
I just needed to vent to people that I know have issues like mine. I have GAD (pretty serious). There are drugs or alcohol that help. I have been seeing a PDOC for 3 years and been on everything. The only combo that helped was Effexor with Klonopin, but my new doc doe not agree and put me on Celexa and the occasional dose of Klonopin. Not working. More and more I turn to alcohol. My girlfriend is about to leave me and I am miserabe every day. The only relief that I have felt in the last two months is when i take Ambien or Lunesta, but I can't take that durinig the day. Does anyone have any recommendations? Or does anyone with my same issues want to try and date (ha)? Thanks all |

How long have you been on your current combo of meds? If it has been over a few months, I suggest you talk to your pdoc about this issue. ![]()

As Gimmeice suggested, how long have you been on Celexa, as it is a good drug for GAD, but it takes time to take effect, like most SSRIs/Anti-depressant drugs (anti-anxiety as well), up to 3 - 6 weeks. If after that you don't notice a change, I would talk to my doc. But if it hasn't been that long, let it take its course. I take Clonopin as well, sadly for a long time, I have to take large amounts if I am really upset, but usually 1mg a day does it for me all day. It's the only drug I take, nothing else has worked, although I haven't tried Celexa. GL and God Bless! You can do it! ![]() |

hey j, jme, but alcohol and drugs don't offer you a long standing solution. your meds also do not mix well with d/a. i almost died trying this mix. as ihateit said, alcohol is a depresant so this will only create depression mixed with your anxiety. the alcohol also interferes with the effectiveness of your meds. thus, you are not having what you feel are good results from the meds. imho, i'd stay off the alcohol and drugs and see if you don't have a miraculous solution to many of your symptoms. many of us have tried to self medicate with longstanding negative results. you can take a detour on the road you are on and improve the outcome. good luck and let us know how you resolve this.

Jaey, therapy is a must for anxiety. You are anxious for very certain reasons and as you understand why you are anxious you will be able to fix it. I recovered from anxiety with therapy.........

I thank you all. I still have not figured it out, but have a P-doc appointment in 2 weeks (1st available). My ultimate goal is to be alcohol free and anxiety free. I am single now, probably better for her and me.
i want to be better. |

*HUGS* Good luck, my friend! I also suffer from GAD, and had to switch PDOCs because of a squabble over medicine... if the stuff you're currently on isn't working, INSIST that your doc listen to you!!! Granted, I don't know your full situation, and often your Doc will be right, but in my case she was very, VERY wrong and pushed back my recovery quite a ways.
Tell your doc your concerns about medication, and about how your old combo seemed more effective than what you're on now. Also try to be patient; as I'm sure you know, it often takes psych drugs a long while to reach their effective dosage (the point where you start to feel anything) so hang in there!!! Alcohol also affects the way your meds interact with your brain and body, so try to stay away from that as much as you can while the new medicine runs its course. Good luck and all the best!!! ~muse
