We are getting custody of my 9 year old step-son. He has ADHD and it's bad! I am going to get him to doctors here in my area and have him re-evaluated. I think there is more there than the ADHD (so does my hubby), but I am not going to say anything to the drs...it's their job to diag him.

I saw some links about diet and I am willing to do anything if that might help.

Anyways, what should I ask the dr? What should I do? I have a log of things I have noticed, behavior-wise, about him.

I just don't want him to be skipped over or not looked at properly. We are going to take him to our family doc, who is awesome. I feel like I should go in there with SOME information. I want him to have the best care we can get him!

BLAH! IDK, I could just use some insight from parents, siblings or those who deal with ADHD on a daily basis. I am way confused right now!

Thanks!

Most diagnosis is done with observational evaluations. Crash is getting started on diagnosis on Oct 6. Be his advocate, and love him. PM me if you need to. (I am falling asleep so I will be thinking better tomorrow)

Thanks. My husband is going to call the Dr. tomorrow and see how quickly we can get him in.

Hang in there! I am still going through this process and my youngest daughter, Crash, is being evaluated on the 6th. (Of course, diagonsis won't come that day, I will have evaluations to fill out and her teacher will too). Love and kindness and firmness will go a long way!

Well, we took him to our family doctor today and he agrees with us, that the kiddo needs to be re-evaluated because he thinks there is more there than ADHD. It was great to have someone FINALLY hear my husband. He has been saying he felt like it was more for YEARS! The Dr. said it sounds like him moving with us and us being able to get his needs met is the best thing that could have happened to him. We are going to make an appointment with a behavioral specialist next week.
Thanks for all the support and I will keep you updated!

Just know, as a kid who was told she was not ADD who is not an adult who is, you are saving him much pain and low self esteem!

Thanks for that. It means a lot to hear from you that we are doing right by him. He deserves the best and I will stop at nothing to get him that.
