I'm 19 years old and live in a residential treatment center in Orlando, FL. I have already switched therapists once because I used to get really angry and aggressive towards my original therapist, but for the past few months I have had the distinct feeling my current therapist doesn't know anything about ADHD despite the fact I loaned her a book about it. I want to switch therapists again but I feel like it's such a big pain in the *** that its not even worth doing but at the same time I'm not getting any better and I feel like I'm wasting my time and money.

I like this facility and I don't want to have to uproot my entire treatment but I'm beginning to feel like maybe it's the wrong fit for me. Oh and get this, they recently threatened to kick me out because I'm too "dangerous." How can they get away with treating me like this when all I want is to get better and they refuse to even work with me or even glance at a book about my condition? Basically I'm just seeking advice or insights anyone might have about the situation because I'm completely at a loss as to what to do.
Thanks for this!

Why do they beleive that your dangerous and why would your therapist think you don't suffer from ADD?

Anger is not too unusual when dealing with ADHD/ADD. There's a lot of frustration and anxiety that comes with the territory. And that frustration/anxiety may come out in the form of anger for you. So, it's very important that you learn another way of dealing with it.

Anger usually only pushes people away. It's not the way to get support. And that is why you are going to this facility, afterall, isn't it?

So, perhaps you may want to get some anger management help. That act would show them your willingness to work *with* them and end the threat of throwing you out. Furthermore, as you can see, your anger is not helping your situation. It *may* have hurt other situations too. (I do not know this, but, it is something for you to think about.)

I sincerely hope that this suggestion is helpful to you.

Peace!

i appreciate your response, and i have been trying to show them that i am serious about my treatment. after all, i chose to come here its not like i was forced into it. i think im going to try talking to my therapist about it and explain it to her myself instead of with a book
Thanks for this!

Have you tried writing in a journal about why you are angry. It may be that you are caught up in the moment or just releasing stress. You should find a therapist that specializes in add/adhd just ask for their background information.

What about writing in a journal explaining about why you are angry. Are you caught up in the moment, stress. You should find another therapist who specializes in add/adhd and ask for their background information.
