My son is 15, and each year has been a struggle in school. He has a difficult time also with kids picking on him.
I am not sure what the issue is, because he is very outgoing and although has a teen attitude he seems to be a normal kid.

Freshman year - Last year he was in a program called "opp academy" smaller class sizes to help them better focus and have more teacher time. He did pretty well in that atmospher but did still struggle with focus.

Sophmore year -He is in regular classes now. This year again he is struggling with his core classes, currently an F in all 4.

I have had talks with him over the last 5 yrs trying to figure out where or what he thinks the issue is. He says he has a hard time focusing in class.
He also says school is hell..... says people treat him like crap and that it is the same thing every year.
Obviously this crushes me....I dont know what th do for him....really just need to know where to start .... maybe he has some signs of add ... he isnt hyper or anything he just .....well ... like me I guess. I have never been tested or diag but I have similar issues with focusing and absorbing information......

I also would call his consular at school as they will get the ball rolling.
I think once you request a eval. They have 30 days ..if i remember right
Its so hard when kids treat other kids not nice at school . My heart goes out to you and your son.
Thanks for this!

It could be a combination of AD(H)D and depression. When I was that age, I certainly tried my hardest to hide depression issues from my parents. I would do whatever I could to keep myself from the things that were making me depressed, and while it really helped me deal with the depression aspect of things... I was still completely unable to do all my work. I think seeing a doctor would be a great idea for your son. As far as kids picking on him, I don't know what to tell you there. I've been picked on before, but it never *really* got to me. As long as he has at least some friends who don't pick on him he should be okay
