Well, I've been on the generic Adderal, 10 mg, now for a few months.
I've titrated up from a single 10 mg per day to 30 mg per day. The P Nurse wants me to take 20 mg in the AM and 10 mg @ noon. But, I do my best in the AM, and I always have. So, I tried taking the 10 in the AM, (which was the normal dose, and I was doing fine with it), and taking the 20 in the afternoon. That made me a bit jittery. I have *always* reacted strongly to meds, which is why we started me on such a low dose. So, I started taking one in the AM, one @ noon, and one @ 3 or 4 PM. And with that, I'm doing GREAT! I have *no* problem going to sleep at night, (something she was afraid would happen if I took it later than noon.) And I feel much more "even." I am also more able to sustain concentration, my ability to get things accomplished, and I'm much happier all in all. I do still have some memory issues, which she attributes to the large amount of stressors in my life right now - work, son in jail for drug charges, financial issues, and work being done at home creating chaos. The problem is, I've done these changes on my own, without her knowledge or consent. I'm afraid to tell her now. I'm afraid she'll think I'm "abusing" them. I'm not. I'm trying to feel better. I've *never - ever* taken more than she's prescribed. I've only changed the *time* that she said to take them. Should I say anything to her? Or should I just continue to do what I'm doing, that seems to be working for me? Is it unethical/immoral if I don't tell her? Thanks for your insights! Peace!

If I were you I'd tell her. I think she'll be thrilled it's working so well for you. She wants you to feel and function better and knows you know your body best! Tell her all the different ways you tried and your reasoning (which is quite sound) that you're actually better in the morning and trying the two in the afternoon made you jittery and the one in the late afternoon does not interfere with your sleep, etc. She'll really enjoy hearing, each person is different and medical people learn from the actual experiences of their patients! Bet you she thanks you! :-)

The scheduling of your doses is pretty typical for Adderall instant release. I would tell her.

Oh, sorry....I should have said that this is extended release.
But, I still go to bed about 9:30-10:00 PM, and go to sleep fine. So, I don't think it matters that much. Or maybe because it's a low dose? Thanks for your thoughts. ![]()

Some people metabolize the medication faster than others. If it works for you and causes no sleep disturbance it should be fine even though it's extended release.
