One time I took the SAT and I spent the whole time trying to figure out how to flip my tongue over....but that was mainly because I had a problem taking my time while taking a test, and would just fly through the problems.
Hence, I took the SAT 5 times, (starting in 10th grade) and finally on the last try I squeaked out a 1200/1600, which mainly the score came from the math part (720/800). I would advise to brush up on big vocabulary words, and to see if you can better understand what the question is actually asking. Make sure you pay attention for the word not to be thrown into a question. On the reading part, what really helped me out was to go through the story quickly, just read the 1st paragraph, then the 1st one or two sentences of each following paragraph, then read the last paragraph. Then I would go through the answers, and if I didn't know what the question was asking, I would go back to the paragraph that it was referring to, and then read the whole paragraph. If everything else had failed, I would take my Dad's advice and choose the answer that was the longest, because as he put it, "why would they spend extra time on writing an answer that is longer than the right one." The last option I would go to would be to choose "C" because there was some kind of study that showed that on most tests, "C" was the correct answer the most....haha. ALSO, make your brain concentrate on the task! Set a goal, that's realistic, and reward yourself once you achieve it. Like, if you're going to take it again, about 6 weeks before the test, start studying. 1st & 2nd week study for 10 mins a day, (get a timer), 3rd week study for 15 mins a day, 4th week study 20 mins a day, 5th week study 30 mins a day, and for the 6th week do 30 mins a day as well, or however long the sections have become. Make sure to reward yourself daily for studying, so your brain will see the connection between accomplishing something and receiving the reward. Then on the day of the test, make sure to at least get 7-8 hrs of sleep, eat some protein for breakfast, listen to some Beethoven, fill your pockets with pepper mints, remember your calculator, 2 pencils, and registration and pump yourself up that you're going to really work on focusing on the test. After the test, go eat a dozen doughnuts (or whatever) because you accomplished it. Whatever you do DO NOT DRINK/DO ILLEGAL DRUGS the night before the test. Trust me on this one....you don't want to have to go to a crappy school because you couldn't take the SATs hungover. If you want send me a PM and I can help you make a study schedule. |
