I've heard that one of the drugs being used for ADHD is also being used to help people to quit smoking!! Kill 2 birds with 1 stone!!

I was just wondering if it really worked or not...

You might be thinking of Wellbutrin. I once worked with a woman who had a seizure while she was on it, so I personally wouldn't take it. Then again, my mom took it for a while and she was fine on it.

Yes, it is Wellbutrin and is marketed under the name "Zyban" as a quit-smoking aid. Do you mean does it work for quitting smoking or for ADHD? There are certain populations it does help with quitting smoking, but you don't know if it will help you until you try it.

I take it for ADHD and it helps somewhat. It seemed like it wasn't enough for me though, and my PNP thought we could do better, so she added a stimulant. And then later I cut my Wellbutrin dose in half. This combo seems to work pretty well for me with the ADHD symptoms.

I was wondering if it worked (or should I say "could be prescribed for") BOTH ADHD and to quit smoking, hence the statement "kill two birds with one stone"...I should've made myself clearer....:/

I've known several smokers who took it and hated it. Its not a first line drug for ADHD and it does lower the seizure threshold. Many people get anxiety from it

It really depends on your genetic/physiological make-up, and on the nature of your indications too. As I mentioned, these drugs work for some people and not for others. With psych drugs, you really just have to try. There is no reason why it could not help some people with both indications, but it also might help you with one and not the other, or with neither. One thing to note is that the dose typically prescribed for anti-smoking may be different than the dose for ADHD. So I would guess you would just aim for the higher one in order to help both indications--your prescriber should know. If you try, let us know how it goes. Good luck.
