I'm considering asking my doctor to try me on a course of Adderall. I've read both good and bad reviews on the subject. I'd like to here from someone here who's taking or has taken it. Thanks.

Yes, I take 20mg of Adderall XR once a day. It is a good med although the immediate release works better than the extended release. Your pdoc would probably start you off at a 5mg dose and tirate it up to theraputic levels beginning around 15mg. Good luck.

Oh, and it has very little side effects. I have never experienced any on this med.

I take Adderall. It did help, alot. I'm thinking of changing however. I was up to 60 mg (2 30xr) and it was too high, and now I'm at 40 (2 20 xr and 1 10 xr that I can split up depending on how my day is going) and I feel better and more productive when on it, but not enough. I just don't want such a high stimulant.

Watch your weight when on it, and if any obsessive behaviors develop or increase - watch out. I got a bit obsessive with weight once I saw that I lost a bunch. Make sure to eat and please PLEASE stay hydrated. Adderall also works less when you don't have enough sleep. But ADHD just stinks 10x more anyway when little sleep.

Lastly, good luck! Adderall is a wonderful stimulant to start out on. It helps to have someone who knows you well to watch you on this medication. Tell them how you feel on it and when off it. This way, you stay 'in check' with how you've progressed without bias.

I started out on dextroamphetamine, then switched to adderall when the dextro quit working. As happens with me, the adderall also eventually quit. I was on too high a dosage, and had a terrible time with dermatotillomania (skin picking) for a 2 year period. I'm now taking vyvanse, which helps so far. I worry about the long-term effects of stimulants, but I'm a zombie without them.
