I tend to zone out during conversations with people unintentionally or get distracted by my own thoughts or by what's going on around me. Sometimes it even happens while I'm talking and I'll forget what I was saying. Most people get annoyed with it or think I'm just not listening..

Soo my doctors starting me on vyvanse. I'm hoping it will help..Has anyone had any luck with it? Pros? Cons? Just looking for some opinions. I also have Bipolar so the possibility of it causing mania kind of concerns me, although I'm on meds for that as well. I just want to feel focused and to be able to express myself without feeling dumb or all over the place.

Vyvanse is an ADD medication. There are quite a few shared traits between ADD and BP, so if you have ADD this can help. ADD meds really can vary from person to person. My daughter has ADD and takes Vyvanse and it has Really helped her. I take Adderall and tried Vyvanse after my ADD diagnosis, but the Adderall seemed to work better for me.

I hope the meds help you, but since these are stimulant meds, pay close attention to how you feel.

Hi Nightowl Welcome

I have not tried Vyvanse. I have biplorII and add, so i'm taking lithium, adderall, welbutrin(small dose), and clonopin. Seems like it's helping. I work full time (flexible hours) and raise 3 children on my own. So I am somewhat productive... usually... you know how bp rolls.

I totally have spaced out on people while talking so I know what you're talking about. I also can stare at someone talking to me for some amount of time and then have no idea what was just said, except my mind was somewhere else.

Keep us posted, hope the vyvanse helps!

My reason for the post was simply to get others opinions on the medications, just as I stated. Thank you YYZadd and Blue Inanna for your input! I have ADD and BP. I tried Ritalin when I was younger, which made me manic but aparently Vyvanse isn't as strong? Atleast that's what I came to the conclusion of after talking to my doctor. We'll see how it goes and I'll keep you all posted! Thanks again

I think Vyvanse is just a much more modern drug. It gets absorbed into the system in a more controlled way. I definitely liked Adderall better than Ritalin, but everyone is different and it may take a few tries to get everything right.

Good luck

Vyvanse should not be the first line of treatment for someone who is diagnosed with Bi-Polar and ADD. You should ask whoever prescribed the Vyvanse to change it to something like Strattera (Atomoxetine) or Wellbutrin (Bupropion). The reason why is that neither Strattera or Wellbutrin are stimulant medications, although can both be effective in treating ADHD. The danger with stimulant medications and Bi-Polar are that stimulant medications can cause mania in people without Bi-Polar and therefore are even worse when someone has Bi-Polar.

Vyvanese is stronger than Ritalin, although different drugs work differently for different people.

Sorry Fuel, not true. Wellbutrin has stimulating effects. And us people with BP have to be very careful with AD's anti-depressants, such as Wellbutrin, they can send us into mania/hypomania. I'm sure her pdoc knows what he's doing.

Thanks guy! I've tried all other ADD meds other than Adderall. They all made me worse...we'll see how it goes. I just get nervous starting new meds because I've had so many bad reactions.

I never said that it can not increase the chance for mania. I said it has less of a chance and as a result is a better "first line" treatment, the OP just said that he/she has tried other medications for ADD, except for Adderall. Stimulants are never a good first line of treatment for ADD/ADHD when someone also has Bi-Polar.

OP: Have you been trying the XR/ER or IR versions of the medications?
