So I just was diagnosed with ADHD yesterday. Tested a week before that. I am a very impatient person and I want it to be controlled like now, but it is not going that fast. I am waiting to hear back from my doctor, which I am sure will not be until after the holiday, but now thinking about how I may be and that I might have control is just all I can think about!! I have kids and a husband to take care of and I can't focus on anything right now. How long once you were diagnosed was it until you started treatment? What was it like for you waiting? How long once you started treatment did you start to feel in control? I like instant results and know that is not going to happen.

Actually... With most stimulants, they work right away. Depending on what medication they put you on, you will know that day if that medication is helpful enough. That's the good thing about most ADHD medications.

As miswimmy said. Most of the medications for adhd make a difference right away. I take adderall now and I could tell the difference as soon as I took my first pill.

Oh good!! I am glad I won't have to wait a month to see results.

no you won't. the key is fine tuning it. That takes time. But you should get a general idea whether or not the med works as soon as you take it.

It takes time... maybe the dose is not high enough? Usually, one start low and builds up.
Another thing is maybe you don't feel a difference, but ask those around you if they tell a difference? Sometimes, we don't even notice but others notice drastic improvement.

I noticed a difference within about three days of starting on medication, but it has taken a couple months to find the most effective dose and schedule (so far).
There are more things you can do. I'm getting a lot out of the book "Driven to Distraction." You might try reading something like that. There are some good websites and FB groups, too. |

The only thing my husband noticed was I was up all night, lol. I don't have any friends or anything that are having anything similar so I don't have anyone to talk to, except my family doctor and she doesn't seem to know much or have much of an opinion. If this Vyvanse doesn't seem to help should I ask about upping the dose or trying something else? Any suggestions would be great. Does anyone take more than one med for it?

My only experience thus far has been with Adderall, sorry.

Yeah within 45 mins of taking the drugs I've taken, I could tell if they were going to work. Adderall was the only one that worked and it took me about a year to find the optimal dosage.
