The only thing my husband admits to is having attention deficit problems....but there seems to be lots of things going on...at 57.... what kind of help can he get? And who is the health specialist who can he start with...besides his PC, who is not helpful.....
Is there a specialty field of psychiatry that deals with this? I notice if he is watching tv or using the computer, it might take me four attempts to get his attention...I usually have to raise my voice...I ask if his hearing is bad...and he says he was paying attention to what was being said on tv...as if, everything else is tuned out... I noticed he did this kind of zone out as a younger man as well....but at the time, I had no idea what ADD was....in his twenties, our kids could be ripping up the furniture in front of him but he would still not be disrupted if his eyes or ears were in something else...so he has had this all his life apparently...but now it seems worse.. Also, he falls to sleep at the wheel while driving a lot when I am in the car with him...he has done this everytime I have been in the car with him...he also had a problem with that as a younger man...went to sleep clinic...but it seemed to get better in his forties...only to ear up again...he does not take the med to stay awake..says it makes him light headed...I have watched him doze off while driving at least 5 times in the last 6 mos....and had to wake him up...where he denies that he was asleep....i barely caught him before he ran off the road shoulder....I rarely ride with him because of this..he did it again on Saturday...and laughs about it as if I am lying...I just wonder if he is in full blown narcolepsy...he has sleep apnea machine, but that does not help.. There are other personality changes in him....I can get no understanding from my grown sons.... |

Wow....I cannot believe your post. It's almost like reading about my own husband. Same age, problems. Same frustrations. I knew something was not quite right early on in our marriage. Extreme forgetfulness, sleeping at inappropriate times, and a whole host of other problems. It took me many many years to convince him that there was a problem, the more research I did, I realized that it wasn't just one problem, however A.D.D. was at the heart of his many of his issues. We are still an on going work in progress. |
