Any suggestions for me would be appreciated. I have a hyperactive 4 year old grandson, who is progressively getting worse with his behaviour. He rips apart a room in no time, because he is mad. He used to be polite, and listened, and then all of a sudden his whole personality changed. I am having him evaluated by a specialist - next step will be auditory and then IQ. My own children are ADHD, so I am very familiar with this, and find them to be very creative and intelligent. The most recent situation that scares me, is my husband found medication placed into the peanut butter jar. I am getting concerned, and starting to go crazy. Please help!

Hi and welcome to Psych Central! Do you think his anger is coming from being ADHD? Perhaps you can talk to a therapist about him.

Hello and welcome to psych central.
It sounds like your on the right path with having him evaluated. In the meantime, it seems all you can do is try to keep him safe. You say that all of a sudden his whole personality changed. Has something happened in his life?
It's kinda odd for him to have such an abrupt change in behavior.

I wonder if something has happened in his life that disrupted his routine? A divorce? A change of schools? A new house? A new sibling? First, I think 4 is a little young to be diagnosed with ADHD. Second, the sudden onset of symptoms is strange. It sounds more like an adjustment issue and that he is acting out because of a change in his life than ADHD. I would check with other people to see if they've noticed changes- does he just act out at home? How is he at preschool? Friends' houses? Etc.
