Hi,

I was diagnosed with ADD and on medication as a child for a period of three years. After I joined high school (age 13) i quit medication because i believed that it affected me socially.

Now I'm in university and currently in my 3rd year (of a teaching English and drama to secondary students’ degree) and though I’ve never failed a subject my results are consistently in the low 50-60 range. I often get frustrated with writing the longer essays due to the fact that i can't seem to compile the information I've gathered and synthesise it into a coherent argument.

I'm still loosing stuff, have a messy room no matter how often I attempt to tidy it, i forget appointments.

A big issue i have at the moment is that the only way I can sleep peacefully is to remain active until i get tired enough to fall asleep quickly. If i go to bed when i'm not tired enough, I'll lie there and my mind will go full pelt for hours and it leads to some very distressing thoughts. The problem with this is not so much that i mind staying up, but it's become later and later each night that i have to stay up and because i need to get up early, i get less and less sleep.

I've made an appointment with a psychiatrist and I'm wondering about whether to seek medication or even if ADD continued into my adult life or whether I've merely grabbed a whole lot of bad habits.
