Hi.
I would like some help finding the right medication or combination of medications. I know that a m.d. is part of the equation. Before I go there again I was hoping to get some suggestions / feedback from others who have been there, done that.
So, some background:
I was told I have depression about 7 yrs ago. I was feeling pretty bad so I reluctantly went on paxil. stayed on that on & off for years. every time I thought I was better & self weaned off after about 6 months I would get very anxious & loose weight & have insomnia & basically feel like %#@&#! & get a hairtrigger temper. The thing about paxil is that I felt like a zombie on it. No negative emotions but no emotions. Like a stepford wife. Then I tried wellbutrin. That made me feel great about the 1st week then I realized I never would sleep on that. I tried taking less & less until I might have well been on nothing. So since then I've tried lexapro & celexa (sp?). I quit those pretty quick because they make me so sleepy I get irritable trying to make it through a day. So now I'm on zoloft. That smooths me out but theres something missing I think. I started on 50 mg. a day & felt o.k. at 1st. But after about a week I noticed alot of angry feelings. So after 1 month I upped to 100mg a day. I'm better but still have alot of negative thoughts & bitter feelings that I'm sure are not "right" . So, most ssri's seem to put me to sleep. Wellbutrins out, what else is there to try?

I would suggest that you talk to your doctor about Sarafem, Celexa or Lexapro - they are all great for anxiety, mood swings and depression.... with out making you a zombie thru out the day.

It's a good idea to do research on all of the drugs out there and it's helpful to ask people about their experiences with certain drugs. However, you have to see a doctor. 300mg of perscription X could make me feel one way and you feel the completely opposite way. I hope you feel better soon!

For me, Prozac was a great medication. When I was on it, at 30mg I didn't feel depressed at all and I found I had much more energy. I'd suggest prozac just because it doesn't have hard side effects. I'd definitely suggest it.

Even though you have had a hard time with the SSRI's so far, I'd suggest sticking it out and trying a few more because the tricylics and MAOI's are really hard on your system and have harsher side effects.

Take care!
