Hello all, I am going to be getting tested for adult ADHD and a learning disability tomorrow morning. They said the whole tests could last from 3-6 hours. I am a bit nervous, and not sure what kind of outcome I am hoping for. Please send positive vibes?

Don't worry, what is the worst that could happen? Either a positive or a negative diagnosis will help you move on and make your life better...which is the point, right?
![]() ![]() ![]() By the way, please tell me what the ADHD diagnostics involve...Is it just a written test? I'm planning to get tested myself later and I'm curious. |

It will be fine, don't worry. Be happy you are at this stage and are doing something about what you are struggling with.
In terms of what outcome you are hoping for, I would be focused on getting an accurate diagnosis whatever it is so that you can get proper treatment. My advice is to take a wide array of tests, questionnaires and the physical tests (the computerized tests like TOVA etc) along with your therapists/psychiatrists assessment, since not all tests are 100% reliable and they can give false positives and false negatives. |

Hi everyone) Im going to see a therapist soon get diagnosed for adult adhd, and maybe a couple commorbid disorders. Can someone tell me, please, if ut is better to go to a specific adhd center or a general mental health treatment center? And how much should I expect to spend for the evaluation and diagnosis and or prescriptions. ( I dont have health insurance). Thank you.

I went to my second session of assessment yesterday, and was given what sounds like the TOVA test. I was told it was very boring, would take 20 minutes, and consisted of clicking a button with my thumb every time I saw a square blink on the screen in the upper quadrant of a box - if the square blinked in the lower quadrant, I was to ignore it. At first, I did very well clicking without much delay when I saw the box. I began to feel giddy and almost burst out laughing. After a bit, I actual felt like crying! My mind was everywhere, yet I was focused on hitting that button, to the point that I made mistakes of anticipation. I made quite a few errors, to the point that the practitioner monitoring the test said that I should take my time and focus on accuracy...but then the test ended. During the test I was aware of myself nodding each time I hit the button, and I felt squirmy in my seat, twitching my hands and feet.
But, I was told that, aside from trying to be too fast and making mistakes, that I did not show inattentiveness! Well, the problem is, I can get competitive and hyperfocus on a task! Meanwhile, I had gone to visit my family for Christmas and had my dogs with me. I feed them a raw diet, and had to thaw their food in the microwave. I took one dog's ceramic bowl to use for thawing, and while the microwave was going, i started picking up the other dogs' bowls...but I couldn't find the one dog's cermaic bowl and kept looking everywhere for it, perplexed and exasperated! When the microwave chime went off, I looked and realized that I had used the ceramic bowl to thaw the food, d'oh! So, how do you explain that inattentiveness! Meanwhile, my doc said I definitely test positive for OCD. I have so many episodes in a day where I am turning in five directions at once and forgetting things along the way, I just can't imagine what other explanation there could be.... |
