The other day, I was at the hospital because I was going to one of my support groups. And I had to show the receptionist my id card and then swipe my hospital member card into the machine. I ended up accidentally swiping my id card instead. I do things like this all of the time and it makes me feel like an idiot. A few months ago, I kept accidentally swiping my credit card the wrong way every time i went to the store or mall. I feel like I just can't complete simple things, even when given direction on how to do it. Does anyone else on here have this problem? if so, how do you deal w/ it?

fosterthehuman, welcome to Psych Central (PC). I am so sorry you are suffering from ADHD. I do that with the credit card. Did you have a perfectionist parent too? I was never supposed to make mistakes. It destroyed my self esteem. I am less critical of myself now. Unfortunately my parents are still the same.

Many people who are actively involved in Psych Central find it helps take them out of their own problems to develop empathy for others. And their problems though still there are more manageable.

Glad you are joining us here. There are lots of compassionate people here that can make the load lighter by sharing and caring. Feel free to participate actively at Psych Central.

Some people find the forums give them the compassion and empathy they seek. http://forums.psychcentral.com

Please feel free to private message me or any of the Community Liaisons by left clicking on the name in blue to the left of their post) for questions or just to share.

Hello and welcome to Psych Central fosterthehuman!!! It's nice to meet you. You have joined a community of warm and caring members who will want to offer you support and advice. Yours is welcome as well.

Please feel free to contact any community liaison or moderator if you need help navigating the forums. It will take some time for your first five posts to appear as they are being evaluated and then you will be able to join chats.

I do all of those things and I don't have ADHD and I'm young!!!
Go easy on yourself. I don't think you're doing anything that isn't common to mankind. Some just hide it better than others. PS: You're not an idiot!!!

I look forward to seeing you around!!!

I have ADHD. I have done so many things like this. You are not the only one. It is just part of the way our brains are wired and frankly don't beat yourself up as other people without ADHD do this too.

Welcome to PC. It is great to have you on board.

The site has some great features to include a community calendar with weekly announcements. It also has a resource center. It takes a little while for your first 5 posts to appear as they are being evaluated. Browse the numerous forums and *social groups (*need to join) and post when and where you feel comfortable. If you need any help in navigating this site feel free to contact a community liaison or moderator. Best wishes.

At least you don't space out on parts of sentences or miss a whole topic of discussion because of the thoughts in your head.
