Hello, does these things seem familiar to anybody?
- lack of attention, poor working memory, poor social skills, people think you dont like them and you dont know why.... - love math, chess and philosophy.. - usually have brain fog and difficulty to think.. - impulsive.. - low energy and slow - lack of motivation and sometimes feel like life has no sense.. However, sometimes and i dont know precisely why.. but i just feel like if i am a defferent person, creative thoughts begin to come, my energy level gets higher and socially i become better and so on... i really wish to identify the reason why sometimes i become super me and be like that the whole time.. any body has similar expiriences? any helpful thoughts? |

Hello and welcome to PC. Nice to meet you. I was diagnosed with ADHD a year ago and I am an older adult. My symptoms of low motivation, starting things and not finishing them, forgetting things and problems with certain subjects started in my childhood. I had trouble in math and science and I was a slow reader. I was a day dreamer in class and I also had some compliance issues in my childhood. I was a girl so my issues didn't seem to stick out like the ADHD boys. I have a strong impulsive hyperactive sub type component. I also have the inattention and my brain will kind of shut down. Some of what you describe could resemble ADD, like the low motivation, brain fog, poor working memory, poor social skills, slow at tasks, inability to pay attention. However, so many other conditions are similar in their characteristics. You say that you get very creative and you feel like a different person and you have a higher energy level but that could more closely follow other disorders. If you feel "super me" then that could be attributed to a mood disorder like bipolar. I am no doctor but some of what you describe could be ADD or your symptoms could also fit depression. The high energy could be mania. This is why you need to be evaluated as both ADD and other conditions such as depression or bipolar can be present together. I would see a psychiatrist for an evaluation. ADD or ADHD starts in childhood. If you have school records or comments from teachers and family, it would help to take them with you to a professional to help rule in or rule out ADD. There are tests available as well. I wish you the best in getting this sorted out. It talks a little while for your first 5 posts to appear as they are being evaluated. ADD can be pretty diverse, but some of your symptoms sound like they may be from another cause. When you become "super me", do you do more impulsive things? Buy things impulsively, start and not finish projects, do you have racing thoughts, need less sleep, do dangerous things like drive too fast, do drugs or have promiscuous sex, do you feel like you're "on top of the world" and the crash to the opposite end of the spectrum? Have you ever had a depressive disorder? This may be totally off, but in addition to the poor social skills and difficulty interacting with people, do you have general communication difficulties? Do you get fixated on one thing and have a hard time moving on to other subjects? Problems with eye contact? Excessive attachment to routines? Just curious. Hope you figure things out. |

Sorry but it seems i have expressed a point wrongly. when i said "superme" i meant that i my add symptoms get alleviated, i can focus and think easily and creatively, and my energy become high like the energy of any other "normal" guy....

[QUOTE=pinkflower17;4417678]Some of those symptoms sound familiar. I can relate to the lack of focus, mild impulsivity, lack of energy, lack of motivation and difficulty finding meaning in life. I have mixed type ADD, along with MDD and brain stem damage from meningitis and an infection in my spine, spinal cord and brain.
