I have a adult son with ADHD. We found out when he was 5 and he was on meds until his Sr. year. He wanted to join the Army and they said he couldn't be on any meds so he quit taking them. He didn't go into the Army because I talked him out of it. He just thought it was a way to make money. He has been out of school for 2 years now and can not keep a job or do alot of normal daily things. He will be 21 next month and I'm scared to death. He has the maturity of a 16 year old and I'm afraid of what will happen when he is legal to drink and I don't know what to do to help him at this stage. He just wants to run around and hang out with his friends. I can not and will not support him and he just gets others to help him. Can some one PLEASE shed some light on this for me. He won't take any meds, says it makes him feel crappy but the way things are going I think he will be living here with me until he is 40. Thanks for you time.

Ma'am, I'm a Captain in the Army, the Army may just be the right thing for your son. He can get that exciting, mentally and physically simulating job that he will also find satisfying. I'm Infantry and when I'm doing Infantry training I'm totally focused. I had a Soldier once, that had been diagnosed and didn't tell the Army he had taken ritalin, he loved being in the Army. Feel free to email me with any questions.
