I posted an introduction in the main forum index.... but this is obviously more appropriate. I Just found out one side of my family has a long history of Adult ADHD/ADD/Alcoholism/Aspergers.
And this makes a WHOLE lot of sense for me - I have since taken all the online tests, epically failed them all, and researched the condition (adult ADD) I am actually relieved that this discussion came up at a recent family function! Long story short.. about three years ago I started working from home.. since then I've been horrible at overcommitting myself to work projects, not getting them finished, allowing careless mistakes and having a VERY hard time motivating myself to do some things I am good at (ie: I write pro-bono for a politics blog on a local newspaper website.) Plus I used to enjoy drawing, reading, etc.. but now I get overwhelmed just thinking about all the things I need to do and want to do.. and get tired. I have a doctor's appointment with my primary care doc in a couple of weeks and plan to talk to her about this. In the meantime, I have found some helpful coping tips online - make a list and set a timer for each task. That helps. But I could really use some external nudging to keep me on task. My previous work for 20 years was VERY deadline driven...punitively so. which is perfect for this condition. Working from home with a lot of flexibility, not so much. I sought out an online forum for parenting support when my oldest was a baby... and 16 years later... my moms group is going strong... so I know this can be a great resource for people with similar concerns and problems. Anyway... nice to make your acquaintance. please don't be shy. I don't have a lot of people in my immediate world who can get inside my brain and understand this - so every little bit helps! Enjoy the day! |
