I pace almost all the time. I can't just sit still. When I listen to music, watch something, sometimes when I'm playing video games, or read, I always want to move around. I also can't read chapters of a book in one sitting. I have to set it down and/or pace to be able to read a book. It's so exhausting.
I do have good organizational skills though. I perform well in school, with a 3.5+ GPA, and have some organization to my life. My organizational skills make me think that it's possible that I don't suffer from ADHD. I can't maintain relationships. I become spacey and absent-minded sometimes. This is frustrating. PLEASE, somebody tell me that they experience similar symptoms or thoughts? EDIT: I have already spoken to a doctor about this and she said I possibly have ADHD and agreed to put me on Wellbutrin. wellbutrin has nothing to do with treating adhd symptoms. in fact, it is an activating drug which gives people more energy so may increase your pacing. i would insist on an evaluation for adhd to determine whether that is an issue or not. just because you can organize, doesnt rule it out.

Kaliope, according to my primary care doctor my symptoms are also common in anxiety and depressed patients, too. He said he wouldn't screen me until my mood is more stabilized. My know-it-all special, very very smart and LOVELY "psychiatrist" said wellbutrin can help with ADHD symptoms.

After switching to my Psychiatric Doctor he has told me that it wouldn't have helped these symptoms which it didn't either. Consider switching doctors, or just explain that your symptoms are getting worse and hope for different medications. The waiting game is a big pain in the *** with seeing doctors. I hate the wait in between appointments because I know that the medicines I'm on aren't helping, and still won't help by the next appointment. Goodluck, things will get straightened out eventually I'm in the same boat. |

Wellbutrin has helped alleviate my depression, so I don't want off of it. My "psychiatrist" is not very pleasant, how I even work up the will to even speak to that woman is beyond me. It seems as if we are in the same boat. Good luck to you as well.

Itīs really said that the first solution the doctors come up with in case of most of disieases is just medication, pills, .. immediatelly. I donīt agree with this approach, but so much!

Quynn75, what do you suggest as an alternative treatment to ADHD other than medicine? Keep in mind, I asked for the Wellbutrin. I'm off of it now. It's quite possible that I don't have ADHD.

I have ADHD and have done some research on ADHD meds over the past year. I also have my own experience with Wellbutrin.
IF you do have ADHD, then the doctor must also treat other conditions such as depression first. Wellbutrin is an SNRI and it is closely related to a medication that was launched as an ADHD medication by the FDA. This med is Strattera. I think it was a marketing ordeal by the pharm companies as the studies show that Strattera only gives ADHDer's some relief. The first line meds are the stimulants and they have been studied longer and have more efficacy in problems with attention, focus and hyperactivity. So the real fight lies with treating symptoms whether you get an actual ADHD diagnosis or not. I hope that you don't have ADHD, but if you do then it is trial and error even with the stimulants. We are all different and I find that the stimulants only help me sometimes and Welbutrin and Adderall made me aggressive. Good Luck. |

That is so sad that so many of you are having a difficult time with your prescribers. I am on state insurance and have a lot of hoops to jump through to see my prescriber, but I am discovering how fortunate I am to have found a great person to see. I wish luck to all of you struggling with this.

I'm sorry you are dealing with this. Though I am not diagnosed with AD/HD, I believe that it really depends on what your pdoc or whoever says. When reading what you said, it sounded more like ASD, but I'm no expert. Many people with ASD have to pace, rock back and forth, or some movement to help them concentrate. They also have difficulty with relationships.
Those two conditions are quite similar, and an expert's opinion would be the best thing. Question though: have you experienced hyperactivity, impassivity, and/or inattentiveness as a child? Under 12 years of age? If not, you will not be considered to have ADHD. Sorry, I wrote this really badly. Hope this helps ![]()

Nike007, are you suggesting autism spectrum disorder? Because I have been evaluated for it, and I do not meet the criteria.
I was hyperactive and inattentive as a child to the point where even teachers suggested that I should be screened for AD(H)D. The older I get the more sense AD(H)D makes. I'm on Effexor now and although it did alleviate some of my AD(H)D symptoms, it didn't last for long. |
