I find it hard to eat healthy, I find I am so impulsive that I plan to but then eat whatever I want in the moment. Wondering if anyone else is like that.

I live on mountain dew I also struggle with my diet. I don't worry about it. Health food is good but I'd rather be happy.

Yep. Got diagnosed recently with ADD (about 3 weeks ago). Been on dex since then and it's been amazing, other than making me fully functional in everyday life, one of the best aspects is I have close to full control over my appetite. Prior to this I spent the past 2 years in a cycle of binge eating and hardcore dieting.

It's not even that I'm looking to eat unhealthy food - it's just without meds, I feel I can't stop thinking about food and if I didn't exercise self-control I could eat 10,000 calories a day. I'm into fitness and recently have been using the dex + MyFitnessPal app to estimate daily calories and have had much success in controlling my appetite.

My thoughts are that, in my case anyway, ADD makes me constantly seek out food for the dopamine release

Oh I would rather be happy too. But the problem is that I am not. I am considered obese, and I am still gaining weight because of bad food habits. Just wondering if my bad food choices might have to do with ADHD. I also drink too much pop. My vice is Pepsi.

I have a similar problem I think it has to do with the way our brains out and it's kind of related to the adhd but that's my opinion. I do know it can be related to eating disorders or addictive behaviors such as eating habits but I can't remember the details right now. It's really hard for me to get it together I'm considered obese as well and can't get myself to eat healthy but I'm seeing someone for it to try and help.

Thats how I have been for the last 5 years, bingeing and dieting. I's making me miserable.

I agree, I feel like I'm addicted to food as well it's a vicious cycle. I know there is a relation between food and add/adhd I've read only a little about it though. I'm trying to find the connection and understand it better because it's something I've struggled with most of my life. I'm going to school for it because I want to understand why I do this when I don't want to.

I never use to worry about it until I started getting older and gaining more weight.
I was always one to just eat whatever I wanted, but one day I decided to buy a scale and shocked by the number, I began a diet.
It all went grand for a couple weeks then I fell off the wagon.

I constantly fight with myself about wanting to eat healthy and then just not caring what I eat.

This past year, or summer even, I have put on quite a lot of weight for my height and now am considered obese according to my Doctors report on my BMI.

I feel completely disgusted with myself and can barely in even look at my own body without wanting to puke.

I find though that I must use eating as way to cope with all my emotions.
Because I get such joy from eating, it distracts me from my bad thoughts/things that are stressing me out.

I really want to change that.

I feel the exact same way as you've just described and it makes me so sick that I feel that way because I absolutely hate it. I'm sorry you're struggling with that too.

I hate that people look down on those who aren't skinny. It's a massive industry that makes some people a lot of money and it stinks. I'm only suggesting the following because it's contrary to what most people tend to hear/get told about what's "healthy" and how to lose weight. I think a lot of people either starve themselves calorically or nutritionally, trying to lose weight, and then when their bodies are telling them to stop (hunger!), they courageously listen... and feel guilty for it? And get shamed for it? It's totally messed up and wrong what everyone gets told about being "overweight" and it makes me sick how there are people literally profiting off completely unnecessary, societally-induced suffering.

Please don't worry about calories. Don't worry about fat. They aren't the cause of weight gain by themselves, and it's not your willpower or something wrong with you. Please just make sure you're getting enough protein and all your micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) from the freshest foods you can. If you can manage, then keep that up and also avoid trans fats as much as possible (this one's not that hard and your brain and arteries will thank you). If that's not too bad, then seriously consider reducing "added" sugars (sugary yogurts, sodas, and fruit juices). Then if you can handle it, the big one would be not to have massive amounts of grains at every meal like so many people do (breakfast cereal, sandwiches, pasta, etc).

I do love to eat healthy, fresh (or freshly prepared) foods, but I also had to give up some favourites in order to improve my health. I have upped both my fat and calorie intake by a lot but dropped certain specific carbs (bye bye cereal grains, sugars, processed starches; hello fresh veggies, fruit, rice), dumped the margarine I used to swear by for delicious butter (no more trans fats!), UPPED both my caloric and fat intake by a *lot* and have steadily either lost weight or stayed the same since then. Fat and protein make you feel full! The insulin spikes from a high carb intake is the most common cause of weight gain (and cravings) out there. Glucose can induce satiety too, but the ubiquitous fructose in processed foods/beverages (and for those sensitive to it, even fruit) does not.

Some comfort foods don't really have a substitute (desserts can get complicated to do without grains and decent pasta is probably impossible unless you like spaghetti squash), but a lot of things have healthier close alternatives you can get used to, and which aren't too hard to prepare. Name me a favourite meal of yours and maybe I can suggest you some healthier alternatives? (Or at least suggest a wider category of foods you might not mind choosing from instead.)

I suppose food has become a special interest of sorts for me, but I can go on and on about this. We've all been lied to about what's healthy to eat and it pisses me off to no end how people suffer for not only BS ideals of beauty but even BS ideals of healthy.

Impulsivity is very hard to manage. I don't know if you take medication for ADHD - but if so, does that seem to help with impulsivity?
