Don't be embarrassed. ADHD is a disorder, something that you have but not something that defines you.
As far as coping and job searching, it really depends on you as the individual. It will take some experimentation to figure out what strategies work best for you ![]()

Thank you so much that really helps , it's just sometimes people don't understand what it's like to live with a disorder and that I don't do the things i do on purpose . Luckily there is this program in edmonton that I might get into that helps people like us with job training and preparing for the workforce and finding a suitable job , so I'm praying I get in because I think it could be a really good thing . I'm going to remain positive and I have the support of family and friends so I thank you for your kindness in responding

Ya the only problem is the program is a bit of a risk and I rent an appartment with my boyfriend so it's hard to keep up with rent been lucky my family is
Helping but they can't help forever so I hope I get some decent funding throughout the program , but it teaches the skills necessary to hold a Job so I hope I get in and get the funding / living allowance I need . Anyways I'm rambling how long have you had add and how do you cope ? |

Lol how long have I had it or how long since I've been diagnosed? Looking back, I had symptoms from a very young age - was very restless as a baby, very active toddler, super chaotic high energy throughout grade school, disorganized, etc. I was basically the textbook definition of ADHD. I did ok though academically until I got to high school and the work load became too much. I basically had a nervous breakdown, was hospitalized for anxiety and OCD, and then dually diagnosed with ADHD when I was 15 years old.
As for coping, I am on medication, which helps immensely. I worked with a really great tutor and a lot of wonderful teachers throughout my high school years and a really great therapist. I also worked with a few different learning specialists at my school to learn better study habits and organizational skills. It's been a learning process but I definitely wouldn't be here without the team of amazing people who supported me along the way.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience sounds similar to me , I started to have trouble with school around grade 6 and teachers had meetings with my parents but never discovered it was add causing me to struggle . It wasn't until age 20 that we started to investigate further and then I wasn't diagnosed tell after several job losses and that's when psychiatrist said its a possibility in 2014 and I was officially diagnosed and put on meds this month it's been a long road but the adderall has helped a lot now just need the coping strategies , maybe some type of add coach if those exist . I love that quote by the way because its so true . Thanks for all your advice
