Hi,

I am new to the Forum, so I'm not sure if this is the right area for this question.

I am a 55 year old female with ADD. Tried Dexamphetamine and now on 30 mg Vyvanse in the morning.

With both meds I have/had an afternoon "Crash". 3:00 pm, extremely tired when I get home from work.

Are there any ADD medications that do not cause this? Or is it best, (I'll ask my Dr.) to take another dose in early afternoon.

Thank you.

You asked about an afternoon "crash" due to meds wearing off. I take Adderall-XR (time release) and I find it works for the entire twelve hours it's supposed to.

I take instant release adderall, and although it certainly wears off by afternoon (when I take it first thing in the morning), it wears off with no crash at all. It's a game changer for me.

Good luck Starletta!

Dunno. I think it's different for everyone. I've heard of some people taking an instant release of the older version of Vyvanse to help mitigate the crash. I'm going to ask my pdoc if I can try that. Vyvanse does the same thing for me.

I didn't like Ritalin because of those 'crashes'. My ADHD doctor switched me to Concerta, which is a slow release methylphenidate.

I am taking Adderall and don't think I've ever crashed on it. And I don't think it's time released.

I took Ritalin once for a while and found it to be not as effective as Adderall.

Also, Wellbutrin (Bupropion) is used to treat ADD/ADHD. It's an anti-depressant and now has a time release pill. I've taken both time-released and not, and neither caused me to crash.
