Hi all,

It's been awhile since I've posted and visited here, life is going and just going! Sometimes I seriously think I'm being physically left behind while mentally it runs off.

Anyways, I'm taking the first steps in being tested for ADD as an adult! I'm in as a referral to see someone which will hopefully happen in the next month. Still hope it'll be a cut and dry case where I'll be diagnosed ADD or not and no farther testing has to be done! Then if they decide that I should also be medicated, which I'm sure that I will have to be, I'll not only have the pressers of life as well getting use to the medications or finding the right mix or right medication.

Yet, I know I'm very classic ADD! I've been very classic ADD my whole life! I've been medicated in my childhood which was not the right kinds for medication... Adderall and Ridlin. Which I dread being placed back on!

Anyways, how does this testing work?

It's extremely important to find a doctor who is an expert on testing for ADD/ADHD - more than likely this will be a clinical psychologist who specializes in the disorder. Do not relay on just any doctor - again, make sure you find one who specializes in ADD/ADHD.

Diagnosis almost always consists of taking a COMPLETE medical history that examines your past - including school performance, and also the use of rating scales. However, those who know what they're doing will also use very boring computerized tests (continuous performance tests or "CPTs"), IQ, and/or achievement tests, as well as other measures to rule out other conditions.
