Hi! I've been told by a psychiatrist that I have OCD - and obsessive thinking and that he doesnt believe ADHD is a real mental illnes. What do you guys think I have? I am a creative person, but I can't seem to keep to focusing on one category - I am in interior design school - and the constant thought of being confined to do interior design work makes me very anxious. Being confined to one area of creativity makes me feel confined and because of this, I haven't been passionate about my school work and have been doing poorly. I constantly think about all the areas I would like to do and it seems like death to be confined to one- I'm interested in just so much. If i think of going to FIT to take photography, I will feel bad about not finishing my degree in interior design, and I will think but I also want to do makeup artistry..and I would also love to do fashion design..in any category of creativity I believe I would want to do something else...what is this mental illness? Thanks for your comments in advance!
other things I suffer with - I obsess that my husband is not my true soulmate. House work is absolutely PAINFUL for me to do - it just seems so hard and boring and I end up not doing it and feeling crappy my house is always a mess. I spend too much time on the internet and social media and waste my life on it!!! when I should be more productive or I should be going to sleep! thx, sara |

Hi Sara.
Unfortunately members here would not be able to make a definitive diagnosis for you, However, exploring the forums and chatting with others may give you some insight into ...'Where to from here' . For those who feel alone, or simply wanting to reach out for a chat without judgement......this is the place. There are many good listeners here, we're a pretty good bunch. I have been an active member of this site for 3 years. In that time I have received some really constructive feedback and connected with several others with similar challenges to myself. I have also found hanging out in the Games Forums to be a welcome distraction in times of stress... a great way to clear my head, meet like minded others, and have some well needed fun. Also after 5 approved posts members have the option to join the chatrooms..or chat one on one with other members. Should you have any questions on navigating this site, please don't hesitate to private message me or any of the other Community Liaisons who will be more than happy to help. Just click on the screen name above my avatar. Please be kind to yourself Sara, and welcome to P.C

If you think you have ADHD you need to find a doctor who knows ADHD is real. Going to someone denying its existence will not help, if this is what you have. A real expert could help you figure it out.

I hope that you find a good psychiatrist and can get things sorted. I am also awaiting diagnosis though my therapist has a strong sense that I am ADD. I took the Psych Central add/adhd test and I also scored high on that. You may consider taking that and printing it out and bringing it with you to the new psychiatrist. Maybe you could even find a child psychologist who specializes in ADD/ADHD. That is the kind my regular psychiatrist is sending me to.
