Arghhhhh!

Just ONCE, I'd like to be able to take on a task and see it through to completion without having to be cajoled, coerced, prodded, poked or guilted into getting it done.

I have a major project that I need to finish, that has been on the backburner for ages. If I could only finish it, I'd have some much needed money come in. But I can't even LOOK at it -- some mental roadblock is keeping me from getting it done.

I don't know how to get past this... any ideas?

Thanks,

MHH

I have the same issue. I have so many projects right now, & can't seem to finish anyone of them. I have also started a new business, I don't know why I took on that extra task, just another impulssive choice I've made. I finely brought up this issue with my dr. and was dx as having ADD. Started meds yesterday, and am hoping they help soon. Have you spoke w/dr. about the problems you are having?

im sorry you are struggling at this time with this project, yes it can be frustrating,
why not put a reward there for yourself when you reach half way and then finish project

Hi Cyndy and Kathy, thanks for your replies.

Well, here it is a week later, and I'm still no closer to finalizing this project. I obviously have some mental block associated with it, but I can't pin down what it is. :-(

I did talk to my therapist and doctor about it last week, but right now there are so many other things going on that it kind of got pushed to the backburner.

The ridiculous thing is that I KNOW I'll feel way better when I get it done... so why can't I just do it? (I don't think there's an answer, I'm just venting... thanks for listening.)

Don't think of doing the whole thing. Just "investigate" it and let yourself spend 5 minutes making a list of what still needs to be done (and then walk away). Break it down into smaller tasks that don't look like the whole project and quit using your energy to tell yourself what a failure you are and how you can't do it. That doesn't help at all so make yourself stop it. Focus on what you can do and you'll go in that direction.

Perna,

That's really good advice. Thanks!

I'm going to go and give that a try right now...

Hugs,
