My youngest has suddenly leanred to ride a bike (two wheeler) and swimm this summer. I am astonished, because we have fought to try to teach him earlier, and had gotten no where. Suddenly, he just ups and does it. I ams SOOOOO happy! Huggs all!

Mmhm. Sometimes, you just have to wait until they are developmentally ready. I had the same problem with driving--I wasn't ready until my early twenties, and no amount of teaching in my late teens would have given me the visual-spatial skills and quick judgment that I needed to be able to drive safely.

You know, I know that, but it is so hard to remember it when dealing with the stuff that comes up every day. He had been riding horses a lot and going to swim school, but he'd only shown that he could hold his breath and wasn't unduly afraid of water in his face or over his head. This was like a quantum leap in both areas. The human mind is sooooo amazing !! HUggs!

lonegal, that's great news! I think you might see if this is a trend for the way he learns? He may need some immersion into something and then be left alone so his brain can work it out...and then voila'!

Good news! The riding no doubt helped. But you had no way of telling when.
