I was wondering if it was a typical experience to be accused of lying about things?

Autism and forms like Aspergers can make it difficult to read people correctly. It also comes across to "regular" people that something isn't quite right. There are all kinds of opportunities for miscommunication here.

I'm quite certain I have aspergers, because of many little things that always seem to be off, that fit with what I've read.

All I can get out of people from watching them is they all think there is something off or weird about me, but no matter what I try they all still seem to think they see the same thing.

I would get accused of lying when I was telling the truth, because it embarrassed me to be doubted that way, and to actually interact with people. But when I lied to cover up and avoid punishment, I could look people in the eye and they bought it. Mostly parents but some other people too.

In mainstream psychology, the reactions match the opposite behaviors. The reason for this: Aspergians know they have difficulty communicating, and for that they try to overcompensate with exaggerated facial expressions and reactions. They feel in order to make a lie passable, they would need solid eye contact. And, in order to explain the truth the words have to come out perfectly clear, and that causes the rapid cycling. So, I hope this helps a little... my son gets accused of lying too, and its simply because he overreacts with his responses.

i really don't mean to misslead poeple, and i would almost say that i am incapable of lying. however i am prone to exagerate the truth and i don't know why...
might be due to me being bp with the likelyhood of being aspie aswell? i think i tell the truth as i believe it to be, if my truth differs from other peoples does that make me a fibber? probably no help at all, but i mean well... rob |

No, almost never. Most people know I stick to the truth more than anyone else. But people don't take me seriously enough when I need to because I'm not a drama queen like them.

No one has accused me of lying since my teens.

Most people accuse me of being too truthful! But when I was a child, I was often accused of lying and had no idea why they did not believe me. I was abused by older teen males. I would tell teachers when things happened. I was very frank and graphic to describe just exactly what was done. They would flat out tell me "Stop making that stuff up! You are trying to get attention and it will not work! Didn't you ever hear of the little boy who cried wolf?"

I get accused of it all the time. No one trusts me at all now; they think I make up stories about being mistreated when in reality, I'm being truthful, I just interpreted things completely wrong. I will often feel like people are being mean to me, but they really aren't. I don't really think that misperception equals lying, but that is how everyone else seems to view it.
