So I just found I had austim, my parents never told me at all.Never. I am really angry. I am junior, & I didn't know one bit. I didn't know all these long years, it just makes me really angry, I hate how I have something else to add on the list. Why do I have to have all these disorders, seriously why.

You should have been told.

Autism deeply affects how we relate to others. I have it and wasn't diagnosed until I was 34. If I had known, I would have been able to interpret my problems differently rather than internalize them.

When I was a teenager I went through a rough time, just like you are right now. I had no idea why I couldn't really connect with people or why nobody liked me. I became really despondent and tried to take my life a few times.

Autism is a way of being. It isn't a disorder that needs to be repaired. It is a part of who you are.

Knowing, understanding and accepting your autistic traits will help you get through this, discover who you are and heal.

I'm in a similar position to The_Little_Didgee, I was late diagnosed which left me both relieved and annoyed. I saw several psychiatrists during my teens because of 'troubled behaviour' and bouts of 'depression' but not one of them picked up on it.

I can't imagine what it would be like for my parents to have known and not told me, I can only imagine I would have been very very angry at them for withholding that information.

You definitely should have been told, and I feel very sorry that you weren't.

Does this new information help explain anything for you?

I am starting to wonder this myself....I have not fully been diagonsed with truly anything except for ADD I have suspicions that I have forms of bipolar.....and I know I show outward signs of certain perosnality disorders.....

so I try to do research in these topic areas and work on how i could input this into my own life and help myself better improve....but I don't ever try to make a fully diagnosis of what I think I may or may not have. But From what my mother has told me my early interactions with a psychologist kind of make feel like...its not out of the realm of questioning that I might possibly be autistic ...since he said to her when I was younger... I did not understand what sarcasism is in the least and it was point less to even try it around me..... I notice frequently I do not catch on to social ques from others hardly at all.

so its become something I now wonder should I consider this a possibility that I might have this or not...

for me when it comes to the world of therapy and psyholgoy even thngs don't fully affect you and your own personal mental health can be so similar to each other that there is still a bit of overlap a fair amount of the time.....with things.
