I was wondering what types of obsession people on here have (that are usually connected to Asperger's syndrome).

I personally am obsessed with dates and doing all different types of calculations I also really just love working with numbers in general.

I don't use the word obsession for things I like. I actually like a lot of things. For a good while I just love learning. I need to change focus soon but it has been nice. I have been interested in so many things. Math and numbers have never appealed to me.

I sometimes wish I could change focus at will, I need to get into php boards but if my brain rejects an idea it's hard to argue with it....

I'm obsessed with my ex-therapist. That's not a typical Aspie perseveration, however.

I have had many mathematical ideas that dogged me for months until I either solved them or gave up. I have also been obsessed with chess and other games.

Some of the noticeable obsessions of mine would be music (particulary the '60s, '70s and early '80s music), mental illnesses, album/book covers (it HAS to be a good one), the human mind and its altering factors (not much of an obsession though) and recently I've become interested in communism and good books, especially thrillers. Though it's a clichee, I get angry whenever I find out I'm not an 'encyclopedia' when it comes to my favorite things (obsessions)...

Let's see.
Space exploration is my oldest obsession. I'd follow that with plastic model airplanes (not so much building for competition; I buy different versions of the same kit and compare them while building them, warts and all). 14th through 18th century European sailing ships. What I seem to share with most on the spectrum focusing on details perhaps more than the whole.

I jump between obsessions every so often, but my main ones relate to British history, old movies, old music, classic literature, and mental disorders.

I once had a plan to fill my visitor's book before I die. I've lost interest in that.

It's good to see that I am not the only person with these obsessions.

What kinds of mathematical ideas? I'm a mathematician so naturally I'm interested.

All sorts of things.

The number of labelled trees with n vertices is n^(n-2), so there ought to be a simple and natural correspondence between labelled tress and "words" of (n-2) letters chosen from an alphabet of n. What is it?

Newtonian physics has a notion of gravitational flux which seems to be missing from general relativity. How and under what conditions can I define a relativistic gravitational flux?

What use are quaternions?

What use is hyperbolic geometry?

Linear systems of the form A™ C A x = b occur in many contexts. Yet there doesn't seem to be a really good way to express x as a function of the diagonal matrix C when A and b are fixed.

I'm into that stuff as well, do you ever check out the Numberphile YouTube channel.

I get obsessed with the weather, and following it. I am obsessed with how people smell, I am obsessed with women who wear nylon i.e. tights or pantyhose, it makes me very horny. I am also obsessed with time and numbers.

I think that over the years I have developed a weather obsession as well.

I have always had obsessions with certain people and the things connected to those people. In the past, I had a huge obsession with Ruthie Henshall, which eventually translated into an obsession with all things musical theatre and particularly Sondheim (whom I still adore). Then when I "outgrew" this obsession, I became fixated on Law and Order, particularly on one of the lawyers on the show, who I was so obsessed with that I manipulated my father into taking me to New York at a time when I knew she'd be filming and hung out on the set for literally eleven hours just to watch her.

When I was a kid, I also had obsessions with American Girl, Neopets, and Yu-Gi-Oh, and a peculiar fixation with sorting things, particularly names, and grouping them into piles.

Does anyone have more than one obsession at the same time? I find that obsessions are generally too time-consuming for there to be multiples, but as I get older, the obsessions are becoming less intense so I can sustain several things I am super, super interested in at the same time. These days I would say the closest thing I have to an obsession is Judith Butler, but even that isn't nearly as intense as anything I've had in the past; it's just something I happen to be incredibly interested and know a lot about.

I am obsessive with understanding why people act the way they do? It drives me nuts, when I cannot figure it out (no pun intended) lol

Im obsessed with meticulously planning an organising everything i do so i dont make mistakes. But still do :/
Organising everything on my computer, in my house and everything in my pockets has to be in a specific place.
I always analyze people and myself constantly.
Also the pokemon game. I know the stats, attacks, strengths and weaknesses of nearly every pokemon. Which is annoying because its completely useless in the real world but i cant stop.
Thanks for this!

Hmm. I would be more apt to call them special interests.

Some of this stuff may be in this Neutral Zone between autism and OCD, for me, but:
Pretty much anything neurology. Brains. Brain damaged, unique brains extraordinary brains average brains how we make and break the connections. Kindling theory: is it really like blazing a trail? and maybe we actually have way more neuronal pruning than we know and buddhists monks have different looking brains and some can control readouts on EEGs from years of mediation and dreams are crap or significant or help us learn.

Also: systems and comnplex mechanical machines. I have a habit of taking things apart- arguments and appliances- and putting them back together again. I can usually fix anything is given enough time and tools and like puzzles. I have a weird thing with patterns- making them, seeing them when they weren't there, forming shapes that fit into eachother from everyday things. I have this extreme interest and curiosity involving how things can fit into eachother and I had to be literally torn away from Tetris on a regular basis when i was younger.

Stephen King. I've read many of his books several times. I actually read a lot of books over and over. It's difficult for me to get into new books or movies or television shows- one of the reasons having cable would be useless for me.

At this point there are a lot of shows that I just listen to and i picture exactly what is going on for every single episode.

Numbers are amazing and complex and simple and friendly and I want to do everything with all of them. So I count. I count cars and then count the red, white and blue cars because it is the 4th of july and 7 + 4 equals 11 so if I ttok all the cars I've counted on independence day, what would be a comparative fraction of 11 if I am considering how many white cars I saw?

right foot left foot rhythm rhythm rhythm. Everything is counting.

Um. Language. and psychology. Pretty much everything that could possibly fall under that umbrella or be related. So like, everything ever.

I'm also really really into genetics and genetic disorders and stuff.
Um.
A lot.
Thanks for this!

...haha.
I'm pretty sure that is one of the most accurate depictions of how I think that I have ever tried to put together.
