Sometimes, I feel angry just because of the loss of a material object. Right now, I'm feeling angry about my laptop which seems to be broken. Has it happened to anyone else here?

Welcome to the Community, vafhj. I have gotten quite upset when a thing has not accommodated my expectations.
Perhaps, some resistentialism? |

I fail to bond with people on an immediate basis, I can only bond if a lot of time passes. I can bond with an animal almost instantly. But unfortunately items I had for a while, I also bond with.
It is like I reject the idea that they are fully inanimate. Even objects have character to me. So when something breaks I feel bad. What is the worst is if some history is involved as well, like this item is within my self biographic memory. Since I have a poor emotional memory, sometimes items can "bring me back". So I get attached to things on several levels. When I was a kid I cried when my cactus died.

I broke my umbrella a few months ago while I was riding my bike. I wasn't holding it very securely and it got caught in the front spokes. I'm lucky I didn't flip. I untangled it and got to where I was going, and when I looked at just how bad it was it took a lot of will power for me to not cry.

sometimes it feels safer to feel emotions towards inanimate things
my work is moving buildings this year and i have been there 14 yrs my therapist helped me see that my changing buildings is emotionally equal to someone neurotypical staying in the building but having all the employees get changed we can experience life with such hyper emotions that it can just be a lot safer to experience those emotions with things that wont walk off and leave us or make fun of us for it

Totally different from me. I feel unsafe because I know things break, you buy new things and all that. Just knowing stuff doesn't last forever makes me feel quite bad.

I didn't know that most people don't feel this way. My boyfriend bought a motorcycle last year when he was first learning to ride. He quickly outgrew it and bought another. He sold the first one, just like that! I was amazed. I still have the 18 year old car I bought 10 years ago - which was just a newer version of the one I'd owned before. I still think about that first car!

One of the features of my own Aspergers is a desire for permanence. It is sad that nothing lasts for ever.

i get upset whenever i think about things that might eventually run out. the idea that nothing lasts forever is incredibly upsetting to me, regardless of whether or not i've become fond of that particular material. it sort of makes me really anxious when i remember that nothing will ever be permanent, because then i don't feel particularly safe and taken care of.
i don't personally think i become extremely attached to certain objects? but i am very reluctant to move onto newer, better things simply because i'm not sure how well they'll hold up. i'm used to breaking my items due to attempting to use them as a stim or fidget toy, or with electronics breaking because i have extremely bad luck with electronics, and i do get upset concerning that. i lost my hard drive very recently and while i was trying not to be upset about it, i kind of did get upset after it hit me just exactly what i lost, including a whole folder of my best friend's art. it sucks! |
