Have you been able to explain to the folks involved what was happening? How you misunderstood? You might not need to share anything about your being on the autistic/asperger's spectrum.

Or it could be that what you are worrying about is not as bad as you think.

It is possible that it feels more terrible to you than others noticed. Most people in my opinion, are far too self absorbed to hang onto someone else's faux pas...
Unless they are your bully.
What was it that happened? It would be helpful and help you more with a tiny bit more info...

I'm sorry. That is a painful thing to have to endure. Sometimes these things feel like the pain of it will kill us, but we don't die from these things. We all have to figure out how to go on, even from a painful and/or embarrassing rejection.
Is there something that is keeping you from putting it behind you? The old saying, "time heals ..." is especially true in this case. Perhaps you need more time.
Again, I am very sorry for your pain.
