So I have been bothered by something for quite some time.... Whenever I get overwhelmed, either by crowds, sounds, or too many people talking, it seems like suddenly my brain can't make out anything I'm hearing. Sometimes it happens if emotionally I'm overwhelmed. I'm wondering if this sounds like an autistic trait to anyone.... Please give me some input.... Please.

Hi GypsyRosalie
I am not a therapist so I will take a stab at this. I have read that people with autism and ADHD have problems with certain stimuli such as the feel of certain fabrics and I am sure there are other sensory sensitivities. Here is an in depth article on autism that may help. Autism Spectrum Disorders In-Depth | Psych Central Since you have already been diagnosed with DID and GAD, it could also be part of those DX's. I would bring this question up in your next appt with your treatment provider. Hope the article sheds some light and helps answer some of your questions. Best wishes. |

I think it can be the result of sensory overload. The brain can't process all the information that is bombarding it so it... Stops. Could be due to panic / anxiety, too.
