I have recently started seeing a new phychoogist, I wish i did this sooner ...I finally get what they are for and how they help.

We have been working on recognising my own emotions, although I prefer 'just being' as it is predictable and doesn't drain me etc. My therapist tells me that I will feel drained, sad and other emotions for a few weeks but will then begin to feel comfortable recognising my own emotions and just letting them be.

Its hard work, I have to keep reminding myself to figure out the emotion. I also found myself crying and wailing in the shower over my thoughts regarding my lack of parenting skills..I felt sick and drained for days.

I also enjoy reading and only read biographies and true crime, I do this to sleep. Last night I was reading a book and I felt really anxious absorbing the emotion of the author....not an ideal way to get to sleep now, I hope this goes.

Anyone else worked on this?

Hello Twosacrowd: Well... I don't see a therapist. I've seen several over the years. They ranged from okay to awful! When I can't sleep, which is fairly often, I do walking meditation. I don't read true crime books. But I like to watch the BBC mysteries that are shown on our local public broadcasting TV station. I often feel myself being affected by what I'm watching. So I have some idea of what you're saying with regard to your reading.
