Hi. So I score very high in an autism test. It said Asperger, but probably HFA because I was a late talker. I even flap my hands, but I do this only when alone because I get an overwhelming feeling that my hands are dirty or something's on them. Or at least that's why I think I do it lol. But anyway, I don't understand exactly what is meant by not being able to read people's facial expressions. I really have no social skills and am terrified to talk to people face to face, especially three or more. But I'd like to think that I can tell when someone is angry, or happy, or puzzled, or even if they don't want to talk to me. I'm very very perceptive and sensitive. So much so that I easily get sensory overloaded and need to quickly escape. So does being able to read people's facial expressions mean I don't have autism? I'm really confused by this. Thanks!!

It is common to be bad at reading emotion, but no, it's not a criterion for autism. Social deficits is, but they can be on any level. If you are good at ALL parts of the social gameplay it is unlikely you have autism though.

Okay thanks. I wouldn't know how many facial expressions I'd recognize. Maybe there's a video test. But maybe as people get older they learn how to recognize them which would mean such a test is more valid when one is young. Idk. Still confused lol.

I do rather well on tests, in reality emotions have to be kind of clear for me to read them. I'm not blind to people's facial expressions but vague ones are hard for me.

Okay thanks. I probably don't read people so well. Not sure. Will find out one day.
