https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog...ticated-humans

The guy who posted this suggests that persons with autism
are deficient in what he calls mentalism (other experts
use theory of mind to refer to approximately the same
phenomenon) as part of being less completely domesticated
than other humans.

His other idea is that humans shouldn't want to be wholly
domesticated, and that this phenomenon describes our plight
better than being on the wrong planet (metaphorically).

I don't necessarily like the idea, with its suggestion that
persons with autism should be placed in the care of the
SPCH (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Humans;
an equivalent for humans of the SPCA or Humane Society).
I wonder what you think about this idea.

Another view... I also know that there are a few theories, fringe though they may be in the scientific community that in the case of Asperger, it is seen as human evolution in progress. That said, I know one person specifically who use to refer to me as feral,
Thanks for this!

I kind of like the idea but wonder how much truth there is to it. I mean, sure we have been semi-domesticated but even if we have changed from totally feral, we have many things going on that are not very compatible with a life in the wild. With classic autism it doesn't take a lot of imagination, with Asperger's you have people who are basically born clumsy.

What makes Psychology Today such an expert? They have made many mistakes in my time. Sometimes they are laughable.

We have to laugh a lot also!

I'd rather be feral. This so-called domesticated life really sucks a lot.
Thanks for this!

I have read some questionable articles in PT... Mental health does not have the degree of understanding that say Newtonian physics has nor is it understood in the way say cardiovascular science is. There are many theories that get played out and end up being a fail in regards to mental health & some of course fall into the category of progress. But with any complex dynamic system such as the brain there is a long learning curve.

And yes personal I do find myself feral at times in comparison to others but that is only a problem in regards to "the company" one keeps.
Thanks for this!

Well, I just love the word and meaning of "feral." It just sounds so cool. Personally, I've heard of feral cats who had no homes and also true wild horses which were called feral in order to exterminate those beautiful creatures.
I think I'd rather be feral - and live in the woods with a stream nearby. If I could have my cats and daily food delivery! I'm just being facetious.
Oooh, yes, there is so much happening with the brain now, it is quite awesome. What a time we live in for scientific progress. Neurology is fascinating. And it's all about us! Let's be feral and at least go camping sometimes!
Thanks for this!
